African American Lecture Series: “The Normal School at The Goodloe House”

“As a visual artist, my original creations are an instrument which revisits the stories from the past. They are dioramas exploring scenarios about a time and place when women could not receive a formidable foundation with creative talents to join the workplace. Today, this is the year of the woman.” – Pinkie Strother
PRESENTER: Pinkie Strother is an accomplished visual artist. She received her B.S. from Bowie State University and her M.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art. She taught Art for Howard County Public School System in Maryland for thirty-three years. She also taught at Bowie State University. After retirement she moved to North Carolina with her husband Robert. Pinkie has exhibited for the NC History Museum. She was a former president of the Fuquay-Varina Arts Council and she is member Fuquay-Varina Cultural arts Society. Pinkie was awarded the 2016 International ‘OMI’ residency in New York. She is also a member of (NCABS) North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers. Pinkie was recently was awarded the 2018 Smithstornian residency at Annmaria Gardens in Maryland. Pinkie is a member of the International Art iBEANNA.
