So, You Say You Want a Revolution? Lunch & Learn

January 17 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

You’ve probably seen them around town – the men in their regal blue uniforms, knee britches, and tricorn hats; the women clad in 18th century gowns or sporting blue ribbons adorned with dozens of colorful pins. You observe them solemnly laying wreaths at cemeteries, presenting scholarships and awards, and speaking eloquently about our past. In a historical town like New Bern, we often take sights like these for granted. But who are these patriotic folks? What is their origin and what do they represent?
Join the New Bern Historical Society on Wednesday January 17 at 11:30 at Carolina Colours in their first program leaning forward toward America 250, the 2026 commemoration of our country’s 250th birthday. The Historical Society will welcome Susan Lucas from the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Gary Gillette of the New Bern Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. They will share insights into the SAR and DAR’s rich history and missions, the fun they have exploring their genealogical heritage, and how they are preparing for our nation’s grand 250th anniversary events.
Prepaid reservations required. Cost is $24 for Historical Society members, SAR, and DAR members; and $27 for nonmembers, which includes new buffet meal format. Two entrees are included along with salad, green beans, rolls, and dessert. Iced tea, coffee, service, and gratuity are all included; wine and beer are available for purchase. Reserve your seats at www.NewBernHistorical.org or by calling the office at 252.638.8558.l
