New Bern’s Distinctive Architecture on Display During B&B’s Holiday Open House

Bed & Breakfasts of New Bern Holiday Open House will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
The annual event showcases some of the premier B&Bs along Pollock Street, Historic Downtown New Bern’s B&B Row.
Participating in this year’s event are:
- The Captain’s Stay Bed & Breakfast, 718 Pollock St.
- The Aerie Bed & Breakfast, 509 Pollock St.
- Benjamin Ellis House, 215 Pollock St.
- Hanna House Bed & Gourmet Breakfast, 218 Pollock St.
- Antebellum Meadows Inn, 212 Pollock St.
The inns will be decked out with Holiday Season decorations and provide free house tours, refreshments, Christmas carols, and more. Gift certificates will be available for sale at some of the locations.
All of them offer easy access to downtown attractions—The Tryon Palace and Gardens, riverfront marinas, the Birthplace of Pepsi museum and store, and a wealth of restaurants, art galleries, tours, and eclectic shopping boutiques.

This restored property, built in 1853, has operated as a premier B&B since 1985. The Inn has three ground-floor rooms and six second-floor rooms including two luxury King suites. All rooms include private bathrooms. Breakfast at the Inn combines flavors from across Europe and North America such as: Bircher Muesli from Switzerland, French stuffed crepes with béchamel, or traditional Southern favorites like cheese grits soufflé. The historic Street-Ward residence, circa 1882, is home to The Aerie, a bed & breakfast inn and event center. The Aerie features a total of nine well-appointed rooms, each with private bath. Its Guest House offers two guest suites and a meeting facility to host events and functions. All guests enjoy a full gourmet breakfast, complimentary soft drinks, bottled water, coffee, and an evening social hour with wine and refreshments.

Built in 1847, this eight-room home opened its doors as a Bed & Breakfast in 1980. It has a rich history as a private residence before and after the Civil War. It was an antique store before becoming a B&B. Homemade breakfast entrées vary daily and can accommodate gluten free and vegetarian dietary needs. Cuisine includes Midwestern and Southern favorites. Pastries and Breads are always baked fresh in their kitchen.

This circa 1800 home offers on-site parking. All guest bedrooms are on the second floor and all guest areas are on the first floor. The Master Stateroom has a spacious private bath and a king-sized bed. The Trent Room has a queen size bed and shares a bathroom with the Twin Rivers, which features two twin beds. The Cottage features accommodations for four. Gourmet or continental breakfasts are offered.
